Yohan Mathew
Title: Me to We Marketing Projects Coordinator
Interesting Fact: Through an audition at the age of 15, Yohan was selected from a group of 500 applicants for Canterbury , Ottawa 's School of the Arts, where he was to pursue a career in acting and theatre, only months after he moved to Canada from Bombay , India.
Yohan Mathew joined the Me to We team at Free The Children in May 2005. In his role as the marketing coordinator, he helps on projects such as the Me to We Awards and the Me to We book launch in the United States . He had never imagined that it would be all the way on this side of the world that he would eventually find a way to help the less fortunate.
As a young boy growing up in the city of Bombay (Mumbai), Yohan was no stranger to poverty. Often, he came across the inhabitants of several slums near his middle class neighbourhood. Witnessing such conditions at an early age desensitized him to the plight of these people. It was only after immigrating to Canada in 1996 that he realized such disparity did not have to be part of life. As a graduate from the commerce program at McMaster University and with a 16 month internship at a large corporation under his belt, he decided it was time to take his career back in the direction of social responsibility. Always enthusiastic and creative, he felt that his outgoing personality and love for working with and helping people would be more at home in an organization like Free The Children.
When he's not working, Yohan can be found competing in many sports. He says that he never feels more relaxed and at peace than when he's sweating it out playing a game of basketball.
